DID I JUST FIND MY HUNTING?
I am “newish” to hunting. I have spent many evenings in a hunting blind outfitted in full camo, worried about my scent, being unusually still and quiet waiting for a deer to mosey in front of my bow. Yet, I have been unsuccessful. My arrows have just whiffed past the deer as if a wind spirit is zipping past them. Truth be told, I’m not sure I could harvest a deer. Each time I have pulled the bow back for a shot, I have prayed for a clean kill or none at all. Well I got what I prayed for I suppose. Despite my lack of hunting prowess, I may have found my thing… upland bird hunting! I can wear what I want. (Actually, I really like the classic attire for bird hunting ladies!) I don’t have to worry about my scent because upland game birds don’t rely upon that to detect predators like me. I can walk around, chat, and generally be noisy. Our family dog, an English setter, is beyond happy to run through the fields to nose out and point a bird. Unlike my aim with a bow and arrow, my shotgun skills are enough! Top that off with the fact that my husband is a whiz at frying things, and I have an all over hunting win! I may just be an upland game hunter. Who knew?
