THE RETURN OF THE JUNCOS

THE RETURN OF THE JUNCOS

Admittedly this little bird has an unfortunate common name, which is a carry-over from its genus name - also Junco.  It really isn’t even colorful.  It is slate colored on top with dark eyes and a white underbelly.  They are the antithesis of the blue bird.  Really, they are.  Blue birds trigger thoughts of spring.  Juncos come to visit the Ozarks for the winter!  They spend their summers in the mountains or Canada.  They are seed eaters and must move “south” in the winter.  If you want to learn more about Juncos and hear their call… go outside!  Otherwise, stay in the warmth and visit the Cornell Lab of Ornithology at https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Dark-eyed_Junco/id
