DEERTOE

DEERTOE

The deertoe (Truncilla truncate) is another small freshwater mussel.  It is more triangular than the fawnsfoot.  If you look at the posterior margin you will see why it is called “truncate”.  The deertoe doesn’t have a byssal thread like the fawnsfoot.  But they both use freshwater drums as their fish hosts during development.
