YUCCA USES
The yucca is a desert plant with some varieties found throughout the US. I most frequently see them as ornamental plants in landscaping. Given the many uses of yucca; I think those landscapers are on to something. The flowers, buds, fruits, seeds, and young stalks of the plant are edible. Although it appears they may not be as palatable as you may wish until you cook them. Native Americans used the fibers of the leaves can be woven into sandals, mats, rope, or baskets. You can also use the leaves to make a broom. A green yucca leaf can be a stand-in for a needle and thread. Chunks of the root or fresh leaves can be added to water to make a soap. Given the many uses of yucca, I think those landscapers are “preppers”!
