HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

While the signs of spring have been present for a few weeks now, today is the official/calendar designated first day of spring.  It is the vernal equinox.  Today daylight equals night; hence the “equi” which means equal.  This also happens to be one of two days in the year when the sun is directly striking the equator.  Usually, the greatest solar energy fluctuates in a wave around the equator within a band of 0 latitude to -10/10 latitude.  Because the sunlight doesn’t vary much in this band, the tropics do not experience the large changes in seasons that we feel even here in the Ozarks.  From this day through June 20/21 (summer solstice) our amount of daylight will increase.  This is another reason to get out and enjoy that extra bit of light.
