THE DELICATE NATURE OF FLYING SQUIRRELS
Flying squirrels really don’t fly. They “glide with style”. They jump off their perch, stretch out their arms and legs; extending flaps of skin (patagium) that allow them to glide. The hard part isn’t the jumping (although that seems like a fearful choice). The hard part is the landing. This is especially concerning for males with well developed, external testicles. Yes, males must land carefully or risk injury to their delicates. I wish them well because now is the time flying squirrels are mating.
