THE RETURN OF THE VULTURES

THE RETURN OF THE VULTURES

I watched many cowboy movies growing up and anytime vultures were circling above, things were not good.  This is the time of year when turkey vultures return and a solid time to explain why they aren’t so bad.  First off, they help make dead things go away. That reduces flies (Which lay their eggs on dead things.  Fewer dead things…fewer flies).  If it weren’t for critters like vultures, our world would be a stinky, fetid, fly-infested place.  Vultures also have some interesting tricks up their wings.  For one, they will cool off by extending their wings.  They will also release excrement on their legs to keep cool.  Lastly, if they are frightened and need to “lighten their load”, they will throw up.  That really makes me question anyone who wants to catch a vulture.
