A MOMENT OF PREYER
The praying mantis has raptorial front legs that they often keep folded as if in prayer. But don’t be fooled. Those front legs are designed to snatch up prey and hold them firmly between their spikes while they eat them! A better name might be the “preying” mantis. That goes for the ladies especially. When they mate, the smaller male risks becoming his lover’s lunch. The females of some species will eat their partners. Apparently, once the male’s head is removed, his mating efforts become even more vigorous. That’s what I call losing your head in the throes of passion! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) What biologist figured this out?!?
