CAN "LIZARD WRANGLER" FIT ON A BELT BUCKLE?
Sometimes I think the grass is greener on the other side. I often think of our Ozark native lizards as being less exotic than those in the tropics. While that may be generally true, we do have a gorgeous lizard here at home - the eastern collard lizard (Crotaphytus collaris). The common name comes from two black rings around the neck that look like a … collar. Males can be a fabulous blue-green color with yellow spots. Very “tropical”. Females are drab until breeding season, when they develop red bars on their body. Talk about a red-light district! Males will demonstrate their awesomeness to ladies by doing pushups. Drop and give me 20 baby! These lizards are territorial and will hang out on large rock outcroppings. Researchers studying populations of collard lizards “rope them” using nooses on fishing poles. I wonder if “lizard wrangler” can fit on a belt buckle?
