BIOLOGY - THE LOST NOTES

is a collection of biological tidbits that I sprinkled through my college classes to inspire students to appreciate the natural world.  these are not for kiddos

BEWARE THE INVASION

BEWARE THE INVASION

They have found me.  It took them five years, but they found me.  They have penetrated my home and are spreading.  They look innocent enough.  They are not.  They are burdensome pests.  When I squish them, they leave behind a yellow stain and a horrid smell.  The solution is to suck them up with a bag-type vacuum, remove the bag, squish them, and throw their bodies in the trash.  Do I feel guilty for destroying ladybugs?  NO!  The ones invading my home are evil, exotic, invasive species introduced from Japan.  The Asian ladybug (aka Asian lady beetle) is no lady.  I squish them in honor of our native ladybugs.  Long may our native ladybugs rein!
